Announcing My Singles Retirement

//Announcing My Singles Retirement

Hi everyone. First, I want to say thank you for all the support and encouragement you have given me in all the years I have played this wonderful game. Because of that, I feel it’s only right to formally announce that, in Newport, I played my last singles match on the ATP World Tour. I did not make this decision lightly. In the end, after considering the fact of how much toll it takes to play both singles and doubles, and also that I want to further my doubles career for many years to come, it seems like the obvious choice.

I especially want to thank Todd Martin and the entire staff at the Dell Technologies Hall of Fame Open for allowing me to play singles once more at a place where I have so many great memories as a player. I gave everything I had to my singles career for as long as I can remember, and I am very proud of that. To be able to win two titles on tour and compete in all four major events multiple times are memories that will last forever for me.

Even though this chapter is ending, I am very excited to see what the future holds for me as a doubles player on tour and look forward to the amazing support I have been lucky to receive thus far. Finally, I want to thank those people who have been with me through thick and thin at different stages of my tennis life. You know who you are and you know how much I appreciate you. Again, my deepest gratitude to all who have supported me and I hope to see you soon on tour around the world.
